# Asset Administration in USM Anywhere

Through USM Anywhere, you can configure <Tooltip tip="An IP-addressable host, including but not limited to network devices, virtual servers, and physical servers.">asset</Tooltip> management according to your needs. Proper asset management is necessary to make the most of the entire USM Anywhere functionality.

In USM Anywhere, an asset is a piece of equipment on the company's network that bears a unique IP address. An asset can be a server, a router, a <Tooltip tip="Virtual or physical device designed to defend against unauthorized access to data, resources, or a private network. A firewall’s primary purpose is to create segregation between two or more network resources, blocking undesirable traffic between them.">firewall</Tooltip>, a printer, a PC, or any other network-enabled device.
